You can now call 911 through SKYPE in the U.S – Skype Can Now Make Emergency Calls in the US

Microsoft Skype

For the first time in 18 years since the launch of skype on 29th August, 2003 now you can make emergency call to 911 from skype mobile and desktop apps.

Microsoft in an Article said. One can enable 911 emergency location sharing to allow Skype to automatically capture and share your location with emergency operators when making a 911 call.

Follow the below stops to enable 911 emergency location sharing:

  • Select your profile picture in Skype
  • Select Settings, then select Privacy.
  • Turn 911 emergency location sharing on.

You will need to acknowledge the Notices & Disclosures and the Special 911 Warning of Limitations & Unavailability to complete the process. You can disable 911 emergency location sharing at any time, which would mean your addres is not be shared with 911 when location sharing is off.

The maximum length of voice messages is being increased from two to five minutes in the latest Skype update 8.80. you can also zoom in during a screen share to get a better clairty at text or something else that you need to view more clearly.

Let’s hope Skype doesn’t end up like Microsoft Teams. Last year, a bug in the Teams app rendered users unable to call emergency services due to the software interfering with the OS’s ability to choose a telephony client, blocking the call altogether.
